Victoria Dolman Photography is a local wedding photography business based in Doveridge near Uttoxeter, on the Derbyshire / Staffordshire border. Offering Creative, Candid & Contemporary Wedding Photography Victoria Dolman Photography will capture the story and emotion of your special day with style and flair.

When it comes to wedding photography I would say that I use a mixture of photographic styles to capture all of the key moments of the day. For example I tend to adopt a more reportage approach to capture the preparations of the bride and groom, the ceremony, speeches, first dance and all the details of the day. Clearly some intervention is needed to capture group and family photographs, but this is kept to the minimum, and generally this is done whilst having fun. A relaxed and friendly attitude always helps to produce more natural smiles!

Most couples like to spend some time to create some artistic, fun, candid and romantic images that will take pride of place either framed on their wall or as a large image in their album. I usually set aside 20 – 30 minutes in the day to make sure we can get some fantastic bride and groom couple shots. We also have time for a few posed shots such as outside the church or wedding venue and a 'mock' cutting of the cake shot as these are nice photographs to have as a special moment during the course of the wedding day.  Here are some of my tips on choosing a photographer for your big day.

Choosing a Photographer for your Big Day

When you have decided on the style of photography you like and think would most suit your wedding day then use the internet or social media or friends recommendations to search out photographers that offer what you want. Take your time to look at the online gallery of any photographers you are considering and if possible view a complete wedding album of  photographs that were captured from a full wedding. This gives you a good opportunity to see exactly what you can expect to receive at your own wedding.

Wedding fairs are of course a great place to meet photographers from your local area, and local wedding venues often have display albums from photographers that are available to view. Try and narrow your choice down to a few favourite photographers and contact them to check that they have your wedding date free.

Obviously your own personal budget has to be taken into account, but remember that personality counts for a great deal too. It is essential that you feel comfortable with your photographer, after all you will be spending a lot of time with them on a very special and emotional day. Try and meet up with them at least once in person so that can get to know one another a little better. Being relaxed in the company of your photographer shows in your photographs , so get to know them and you won't regret it - it will go a long way to helps to get some great natural and candid photographs on your big day.

How much should we spend?

Wedding photography should not be thought of as a cheap commodity. You are essentially paying someone to record special images from one special day of your life which will last you a lifetime and beyond, to become family heirlooms to share with your grandchildren. Photography is also something of an art form, most people know how to operate a camera but the real talent comes from being able to capture those special moments in a skilled and artistic way. By using a professional wedding photographer you are choosing someone who is experienced and trained, insured and competent to deal with any issues that may arise on the day. Broken camera?, don't worry your wedding photographer will undoubtedly have a spare. Rain on the big day?, don't panic your wedding photographer will have a contiguency plan for some alternative shots if the weather is not as expected. These skills are things that money cannot buy. Yes it might be great to have a friend who could take some photos for free but is this really what are those photos really what you want as a lasting testiment to your big day?

It therefore goes to say that it really is worthwhile investing in a professional photographer to be sure that you can receive a beautiful set of photographs to remember your wedding day by, without any stress or worry. The best advice I can give is to spend as much as you can afford. What price can you put on showing your daughter or granddaughter just how beautiful you looked on your wedding day?
